Los Angeles – May 15, 2012 – Telesign, a market leader in Internet fraud prevention and Intelligent Authentication, today announced an upgrade of its PhoneID solution for the United Kingdom and Germany. Online businesses use PhoneID to automate fraud prevention and protect against spam and fraudulent activity.
Telesign’s patented PhoneID technology enables companies to identify risky transactions by analysing and reporting a set of key attributes associated with a phone number. This information includes phone type such as landline, mobile including pre- and post-paid data, as well as VoIP numbers, registration location information, and other many other parameters. Since higher rates of fraud are associated with specific types of phone numbers, such as anonymous, location-independent telephone numbers, businesses are provided with additional levels of intelligence where they can quickly decide to flag or block transactions from these phone types.
Anonymous phone types, such as certain types of VoIP and prepaid mobiles, are often difficult to detect and frequently affiliated with high rates of fraud. The PhoneID data upgrade for the U.K. and Germany includes enhanced detection of each of these phone types, resulting in stronger fraud prevention. Telesign’s roadmap includes several updates to PhoneID in the coming quarters, which will result in even richer data sets.
“The United Kingdom and Germany are just beginning to see the benefits of using PhoneID as a fraud prevention tool,” said Craig Whitney, Vice President EMEA. “We have access to global data assets which we convert to actionable intelligence for our customers. This is a real turning point in fraud detection and prevention. This data can be crucial in identifying fraud in many areas, including financial services and e-commerce transactions.”
